MOVIE SYNOPSIS: He was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, from a family of musicians. At a young age he already knew how to play saxophone but turned to singing where he found his love for music and song. At age 10 his mother died of tuberculosis. At 18 he decides to go to the biggest city of Puerto Rico: New York. He goes to live with his sister Priscilla in the Bronx, and she introduces him to Willie Colón. He notices Hecto's tremendous talent and record the song Che-Che Colé. Within 24 hours of the recording, he gets a Gold Record Award, then La Fania decide to sign him up immediately, calling him Hector Lavoe. Hector changed the music scene by inventing a new soung, witch they named "Salsa". Later in his life, he was also called "The Singer of Singers". Hector and Willie, spread Salsa -the new sound- all over the world. Every record in every album that he recorded got hima Gold Record Award. His way of life made him look irresponsible even with his public, but he was always loved by them and recognized as the famous Singer he was. Drugs, women and alcohol, gave him a very unstable life and ended up HIV Positive. At the end of his life, in the Meadowlands Arena, very sick and unable to sing, he retires leaving the public in tears and always considering him as their HERO.
