MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Toña is a Dominican woman who escapes her country in a small illegal boat to Puerto Rico to leave behind an abusive relationship. She wants to build a new life and is on the verge of doing so. She marries Luis and, while waiting for her regularization, she works helping other immigrants in a soup kitchen. There she meets Gregorio, a Cuban doctor trapped on the island with no options to regularize his immigration status. The strange resemblance Toña finds between Gregorio and her husband connects them. The night she celebrates the arrival of the greencard summons, she finds him dead. A beneficial agreement arises between Gregorio and her: Gregorio becomes Luis. In the intimacy of illegality it is inevitable to talk about their pasts and their previous lives. The understanding of their frailties, unwittingly, connects them deeply.
